Copyright champ puts Phl in global IP map
The Philippines has made significant strides in the realm of intellectual property (IP), earning recognition on the global stage. The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has been instrumental in this progress, notably achieving a remarkable leap to 9th place in the World Trademark Review’s 2021 IP Office Innovation Ranking, ascending from 24th position the previous year. This accomplishment distinguishes the Philippines as the sole developing country with an IP office in the top 10 among 60 offices worldwide.
In the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024, the Philippines improved its ranking to 53rd place among 132 economies, up from 56th in 2023. This advancement underscores the country’s commitment to fostering innovation and enhancing its IP infrastructure.
Furthermore, the Philippines maintained its 37th position out of 55 economies in the 2024 International Intellectual Property Index by the US Chamber of Commerce’s Global Innovation Policy Center, with an overall IP score of 41.58%. This ranking places the Philippines 9th among 15 Asian economies, reflecting its consistent efforts in strengthening IP rights and enforcement.
These achievements highlight the Philippines’ dedication to advancing its IP landscape, contributing to its growing reputation as a champion of intellectual property rights on the global map.
