Europol, LaLiga and 15 countries set up "Operation Kratos" to dismantle an illegal network streaming sports

In a coordinated effort named “Operation Kratos,” Europol, LaLiga, and law enforcement agencies from 15 countries dismantled a vast illegal streaming network that provided unauthorized access to sports content to over 22 million users worldwide.

 

The operation, conducted between June and September 2024, coincided with major sporting events like UEFA EURO 2024 and the Paris Olympic Games, aiming to combat digital piracy of copyrighted content.

 

Key outcomes of the operation include:

Arrests and Identifications: Over 100 suspects were identified, leading to 11 arrests.

Seizures: Authorities confiscated nearly 30 servers, 270 IPTV devices, and 100 domains linked to illegal activities. Additionally, drugs, weapons, €1.6 million in cryptocurrency, and €40,000 in cash were seized.

Scope of the Network: The dismantled network illegally distributed more than 2,500 TV channels, including sports, movies, and series, reaching over 22 million users globally without the consent of copyright holders.

 

This operation underscores the commitment of international law enforcement and private entities to protect intellectual property rights and combat digital piracy on a global scale.
