Snapchat launches digital safety guide to protect teens and help parents

Snapchat has launched “The Keys: A Guide to Digital Safety”, a 45-minute online safety course for teens and their parents, developed with Common Sense Media and Snap’s Teen Council for Digital Well-Being.

The program teaches four main risks young people face online: bullying, illicit drug activity, nude and intimate image sharing, and sextortion.  It is structured in two parts: one about understanding the risks and the other about using Snapchat’s safety tools, settings, and reporting features.  The course uses videos, interactive reflections, realistic scenarios, and practical advice.  Snapchat recommends that teens take the course together with a parent or trusted adult to facilitate open discussion about safety.
