Data shows 1m daily visits from Ireland to illegal streaming sites

The RTÉ Prime Time report says new data indicates more than one million visits from Ireland each day go to websites offering pirated TV, film, and sport, illustrating the scale and normalization of illegal streaming.

It attributes the figures to MUSO, a piracy monitoring firm whose tracking data is used by public bodies including the EU Intellectual Property Office for monitoring online copyright infringement.

The wider discussion around the segment points to common drivers behind demand, including rising costs, fragmented streaming options, and low perceived risk, which can make piracy feel like a rational choice to users.
