Illegal betting website Polymarket paying TikTokers to promote election gambling

Polymarket, a U.S.-based cryptocurrency prediction market platform, is reportedly paying Australian TikTok and Instagram influencers to promote betting on the 2025 Australian federal election, despite being illegal in Australia. The platform allows users to wager on various political outcomes, including election results and specific seat contests. Polymarket is not licensed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and has been banned in several countries, including France, Switzerland, and Belgium. Messages obtained by Crikey reveal that Polymarket approached Australian content creators for paid partnerships to promote its betting markets. Some influencers have posted content citing Polymarket odds and tagging the company’s account, with at least two confirmed as paid promotions. The ACMA has not yet received complaints but may investigate the platform following these revelations.
