In rebuff to pro-EU government, Polish president vetoes Digital Services Act

Poland’s president, Karol Nawrocki, vetoed a bill that would have implemented the EU Digital Services Act into Polish law, stopping planned changes around online safety, platform oversight, and stronger enforcement against piracy and illegal streams.

Nawrocki said the bill included provisions he viewed as harmful and framed the veto as a check on the government, while officials in the governing camp criticized the move as political theater and warned it weakens tools meant to protect minors and consumers online. The bill now returns to parliament, where lawmakers could try to override the veto or the government could redraft a narrower version.
