Telugu film chamber seeks cybercrime police help as piracy websites threaten producers
The Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) has turned to the cybercrime police for help after producers received threats from piracy websites. These sites are illegally uploading Telugu films and using Cloudflare hosting to mask their origins and evade detection.
These operations are extensive—65 mirror sites, including platforms like iBomma and Bappam, are being investigated for streaming Telugu films, often within hours of release, including theatrical and OTT exclusives like Thandel.
Producers are alarmed not just by the financial damage but the bold intimidation. Administrators of these piracy platforms circulated messages like “Nothing more dangerous than a man who has nothing to lose,” amplifying fear across social media and within the industry.
In response, cybercrime authorities have registered criminal cases and launched investigations aimed at identifying and apprehending the key operators behind these piracy rings.
